Suryakumar Yadav Avoids Mentioning Pakistan Again During Presentation After Oman Clash

India skipper Suryakumar Yadav once again drew attention by sidestepping Pakistan’s name when asked about their next Asia Cup 2025.

India finished the group stage unbeaten after defeating Oman by 21 runs, registering three wins in Group A. This sets them up for another face-off with Pakistan in the Super Fours on Sunday. The two sides had already met on September 14, where India secured a seven-wicket win. That contest stirred controversy, especially after Suryakumar and his teammates chose not to shake hands with the Pakistan players.

During the post-match ceremony against Oman, Sanjay Manjrekar asked Suryakumar whether India was prepared for Sunday’s big match against Pakistan. Rather than naming the opposition, the Indian captain kept it brief:

Manjrekar: “All set for Sunday’s match against Pakistan?”
Suryakumar: “All set for Super Fours.”

This cautious response surprised many, fueling conversations on social media. Some speculated about possible injury concerns, though those doubts disappeared once Suryakumar came out to bat in the second innings.

Observers believe his decision might have been a tactical move—giving the rest of the batting order a chance to gain time at the crease, something they hadn’t had much of during the tournament.

Speaking about the game, Suryakumar praised Oman’s fighting spirit and even joked about batting higher than No. 11 in the next fixture. He also highlighted the role of Oman’s deputy coach Sulakshan Kulkarni, with whom he shares a past connection.

“From the next game, I’ll try to come earlier (laughs). Honestly, Oman played outstanding cricket. I was certain, knowing Sulu sir (Sulakshan Kulkarni), they’d bring something special. It was wonderful to watch them bat,” Suryakumar said.

Adding to the intrigue, Suryakumar had earlier chosen to bat lower down the order, leaving followers surprised and sparking rumors of a possible injury. But those doubts were he eventually came out to bat in the second innings. Analysts at giving other batters more time in the middle, something the team lacked in earlier games due to dominant performances.

Reflecting on Oman’s spirited chase of 189, Suryakumar praised their effort and credited their coach, Sulakshan Kulkarni, for instilling a fighting spirit. “Oman played fantastic cricket. With Sulu sir guiding them, I expected they’d show character, and they did. It was enjoyable to watch,” he said with a smile.

As India prepares for the Super Four stage, the captain’s words—and silences—continue to keep fans talking ahead of the blockbuster clash.
